Youth Sunday!

April 27, 2009 by revjim

What an incredible Sunday we had as the church was led in worship by our youth. They came together with our Praise Band and we watched as they acted out the story of the Prodigal Son. They opened up our hearts to the love of God and the Holy Spirit moved through us all and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. Leslie, our youth minister, has done so much for our kids and it showed as they taught us about love, mercy and forgiveness.

If you have a youth in your family then come and join us. Be a part of a dynamic group of young men and women. Meet, Leslie, who loves kids and has a passion to teach them what it means to live a life of abundance.

We are here…we hope you will be too!

Blessings,

An Amazing Thing

Sometimes we are so hurried by our daily lives that we miss the little things that matter so much.  I was noticing the wind and how strong it was yesterday.  I took time at the end of the day to just stand in my back yard and feel it blow over my face.  I watched as it blew and shook the trees and everything around.  I noticed the clouds and how surreal they looked and at that moment I had this overwhelming sense of how beautifully God has ordered this world.  The most important thing, though, was I stopped to notice it.

Today, just stop!  Look around.  Take a deep breath.  Smell all the nuances of spring.  Take in the beauty of God’s creation.  Then give Him thanks for that small gift.  Thank Him for letting you slow down enough to appreciate all He has given you.

Have a blessed day!  It is beautiful out there…so are you!

Take A Look

We have just changed our website and we like the look and hope you will too!  Take a look around, explore, see what is new.  Be patient though we will still be updating things on the site…nothing is perfect.  I was telling the leaders of the church the other day that nobody is perfect and that people are going to make mistakes.  The question is are you afraid of making those mistakes.  When I mistakes I like to own them.  The reason for this is because at least I can say that I tried.  When I dive into ministry and service I am always going to fail some of the time, that is just the way life goes.  But I keep digging in and trying.  I never stop.  I keep signing my name on the dotted line.  I keep putting both feet in.

These times are tough, but never give up.  Do not be afraid of failing.  Do not be afraid of missing the mark.  Remember your Lord is with you, He loves you.  Never forget that!

COME ALIVE! Raising the Standard: Setting the Foundation

As the Easter Day Celebration has come and gone we know it never leaves our heart. We learned  that Coming Alive is what Easter is all about. However, coming alive means many things. So as we continue into spring and summer what a great time to RAISE THE STANDARD in our lives.

Over the next several months we will look at how God wants us to live the most incredible life we can.  Yet, many of us are stuck in patterns and ruts. Many of us settle for just a mediocre life instead of the life that God has planned for us.  What are your dreams, goals and desires that have been unrealized? How can you make them real in your life today?

It will take one thing …RAISING THE STANDARD IN YOUR LIFE!  So bring a friend and be with a great group of people who love the Lord. Can’t wait to see you then!

    Childrens Wordle

Our love for our children is pure and unconditional. Jesus expressed his love for the children of the world in Matthew 19:14 – “Let the little come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” We share Jesus’ love through LEARNING, SERVICE, WORSHIP, FUN and FELLOWSHIP. Our Children’s Education Ministry grows on a weekly basis and we have a wonderful team behind us to build enriching classes, service projects, festivals and much more in our journey to learn more about our Lord & Savior. Your kids will not want to miss a beat!

    WORSHIP
ELEVATE: Shipwrecked: A journey of discovery through the life of Paul.Shipwrecked
Trapped on an island they think is deserted, two castaways, Aaron and Jamie, face hunger, weather, something they think is a large bird, and the sound of something they can’t even see. Will they survive? Will they be rescued? Will they ever learn to get along? Find out as we learn some valuable lessons from the life of Paul. K through 5th grade are welcome following the Children’s Moment during both the 8:30 & 11:00am service.

God’s Garden: Dr. Tomorrow’s Robot Repair Shop Jr.: Learn to tell others about Jesus
Join Dr. Tomorrow and his trusty assistants, Newton and Pixie, at Dr. Tomorrow’s Robot Repair Shop. In this series your children will help Pixie and Newton build a robot that, when finished, will tell others about Jesus. Within each lesson your children will hear stories from Jesus’ life and learn how to apply those lessons to their own lives. All children ages 3-5 years are welcome after Children’s Moment in 8:30am and 11:00am service.

We are still in need of volunteers to aid our little ones in their spiritual growth. What greater joy is there than seeing children become aware of God and His love for them?! If you feel called to help out in God’s Garden during 8:30 or 11:00 am service once very 2 months, please contact Dee Kirby at kenny_dee@charter.net.

Bible presentation to all rising 3rd graders in 11am service on August 8th!

    LEARNING

G.L.O.W. – God’s Love on Wednesdays - Rocking Out at Baobab BlastBaobab Blast!

Our dynamic, high-energy G.L.O.W. program helps kids understand how to build nurturing relationships with God, family and others. Building relationships is not just a theory; it’s a place where meaningful friendships happen. Plus, when kids participate in the hands on mission projects they learn how to help expand God’s community. Join us for this Summer series on Wednesdays in Room 214 from 6:30-7:30pm.

    SERVICE (Smiles for Jesus)
Matthew 25:40 – “..I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!”

AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS
For the next 80 days the children in Elevate will participate in a variety of small mission projects that help those in need from all 7 continents. Our first stop – Uganda, Africa. Not only did the children learn about the people of this country, they quickly realized how difficult understanding Scripture was in another language. You see, the people of Uganda speak over 40 languages. Churches are well attended, however, the majority of the time the sermon is spoken in another language. In addition, bibles are scarce. We have adopted a poster project to help them learn bible verses which will in turn improve the literacy rate. The posters will be displayed in the Narthex for the first two weeks of August before they are shipped off to our friends in Uganda. Don’t miss them! NEXT STOP : Hope and Healing for Orphaned Children in China

FRIENDS OF THE POOR: DOMINICAN REPUBLIC CLOTHING DRIVE
Accepting spring and summer clothing, sandals and flip flops for children of all ages ALL year round. Just imagine what a few minutes of closet cleanup could bring to those in need

As adults we face pressures from all angles. Whether you are single, a parent, young, older or anything in between life can be difficult. At Stockbridge UMC we are dedicated to bringing ministries that empower people, love people and help people grow as Christians in this world. Our ministries are wide and broad reaching and we hope you will take time to read about each, but also want to know more.

    UNITED METHODIST WOMEN

The United Methodist Women, or UMW, is a group of women who come together once a month for two main reasons: mission and fellowship.

At Stockbridge First, we believe that reaching out to the social missions of our community is a vital part ofourmission. UMW is in the process of planning a variety of activities for 2009 and would love to have you join them. The women of UMW would love all women of the church to join with them, and invite you to consider attending their next meeting for a great time of fellowship and friends.  They now hold breakfast meetings on the 2nd Saturday of each month at 8:30am in room 238.

UNITED METHODIST MEN: The United Methodist Men (UMM) would like to invite all men ages 15 and up to join us for breakfast and fellowship. We meet on the second Saturday of each month at 8:30am. Typically, the meetings last about an hour.

The UMM is a group of men who come together for the four F’s: FAITH, FELLOWSHIP, FOOD, and FUN. We are involved in the life of the church and the community through many events. Our annual Pork and Chicken BBQs and the church Pumpkin Patch in October are huge hits. We also host a Pit Stop (car inspection) twice a year for our seniors of the church and the community. For those that like to play in the dirt, we also have work days maintaining the grounds of the church. If you’re looking for some fun, we play paintball with our youth and enjoy bowling, golfing and fishing with each other. We also continue to support ourcompass-2 local missions through blanket drives and canned food drives to our local food pantry.

As you can see, UMM has a little bit of everything to offer. So come and join us and we will get you on course!

SMALL GROUPS: We have a wonderful selection of small groups for all ages.  They meet on Sunday at 9:45 a.m. and throughout the week.

RELAY FOR LIFE: We are very involved in cancer support and attend the annual Relay For Life.  Come join us and let’s find a cure for cancer.

CANCER CONNECTION: If you are a cancer survivor or someone who has lost a friend or loved one to cancer come and be a part of this special group.  They will love you and listen to you.

BIBLE STUDIES: We have many ways in which you can learn and grow deeper in your walk.  Find out how and get connected with a great Bible study.  Learn about God, yourself and meet a great group of people.

    HE IS RISEN FOR YOU!

What a great Easter Day we had! In fact, what a wonderful Holy Week journey. The services were filled and I know the Lord touched your hearts as we heard the love of God proclaimed through music and word. There are some things you need to know about our risen Lord. Because of Jesus’ Resurrection you have a GOD THAT LOVES YOU. Because of Jesus’ Resurrection you have a GOD THAT FORGIVES YOU. Because of Jesus’ Resurrection you have a GOD THAT IS WITH YOU. This is Good News for you and me. We have a God that loves us that much. Now the big question…how will you live it?

There is so much to learn about Jesus. There is so much to understand about what it means to be His disciple. At Stockbridge First we are doing just that. We have so many opportunities for you to learn and grow. We have a growing church family that is filled with the Holy Spirit and continues to reach out in ministry. Come and be a part of it and never let the Easter Spirit fade away. Instead, nurture it, let it grow, continue to let it burn bright for all to see.

Come join us…we are here. You will be glad you came.

    Happy Easter To All!
