Missions

Praying hands“I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 25: 40

We believe that all Christians are missionaries and Jesus charged us to be “witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Stockbridge First United Methodist Church strives to be involved in missions in many ways. Our congregation is involved in a variety of local missions such as the local food pantry and shelters as well as national disaster relief projects, United Methodist Women, United Methodist Men and Youth projects. Are you willing to be God’s hands and feet in the world, then let’s get to work!

Ongoing Missions:

A Friend’s House – Children are sheltered here in a safe and home-like facility. The 4th Saturday of each month Sunday school classes provide the meals for the children and staff.

Haven House – Offers shelter and crisis intervention to women and children from situations of family violence and abuse. We provide items as needed. Watch for specific items on the calendar.

Helping in His Name Food Pantry – Volunteers provide donated food to the unemployed and the under employed. We volunteer each Thursday from 6-8pm at the pantry. Donated nonperishable goods can be dropped off at the church and placed in the barrels on the 1st or 3rd floors. Monetary donations can be made out to Stockbridge First UMC and mark for food pantry.

Disaster Relief Team – Has traveled to Moss Point, MS and Louisiana to help the rebuilding efforts after the destruction from Hurricane Katrina. A short training class is required. Donations to fund the trips can be made to SFUMC and mark for Disaster Relief Team.

Basket Collections – Hospital, warm clothing, blankets, hats, scarves, gloves, warm socks, and items for United Methodist Committee on Relief (watch for specific items on the calendar) are all needed throughout the year. If you have donations, please bring them to the church and place them in the collection baskets under the Missions board in the fellowship hall.

Mission Abroad- We, for the first time, have journeyed overseas. Peru was our first stop and we are now looking to go raise missionaries to travel to Africa!

Warrior Angels- Our troops have been on our hearts and continue to be in our prayers. We have a unique outreach that gets supplies and materials, as well as cards of love, to our troops in Iraq and beyond. We honor these great men and women and must let them know they are not forgotten!
